How to plan and structure an arts-based workshop in such way, that participants can feel safe and supported, regardless of their prior experience and engagement in arts activities? How to use constraints in a workshop in such way that they boost creativity of participants?

This online training will explore the value of creating a clearly structured and detailed plan for an arts-based workshop and imposing a certain level of creativity constraints on workshop participants.

The session combines practical examples of creativity constraints with research-based knowledge on the impacts of constraints on creativity. It discusses how constraints imposed by the facilitator can paradoxically be liberating and stimulate participants’ creativity.

The online training will introduce key principles that support effective workshop planning. Participants will consider how artists facilitating creative workshops can adapt the concept of a pedagogical script or lesson plan when designing a single session or a longer arts-based process.

The session consists of a lecture, with some reflective and interactive tasks, followed by a discussion in small groups in breakout rooms. It is designed for artists who are interested in using arts to enhance health and wellbeing of individuals and communities and who are fairly new to facilitating arts-based workshops.
